A RECORD OF REPAYMENT

Make one debt’s timeline plain to see.

A balance, an annual percentage rate, and a steady monthly payment can turn an opaque bill into a visible estimate of time and interest.

THE SHORT GUIDE

Debt gets clearer when the terms stay visible.

01

Use the current statement.

Enter the balance and APR shown by the creditor. A payment can only be as useful as the figures behind it.

02

Check the payment against interest.

When a payment does not exceed first-month interest, the model will not label the balance as paying down.

03

Ask early when payments strain.

If payments are difficult, contact the creditor promptly to learn what options may exist; avoid claims that promise a quick fix.

SOURCES & METHOD

The method makes the monthly order explicit.

For each month, the calculator adds estimated interest to the remaining balance, then applies the stated payment. The balance reaches zero when the final partial payment is sufficient.

monthly interest = opening balance × (annual percentage rate ÷ 12)\nnext balance = opening balance + monthly interest − payment

This calculator models one debt only. It does not include fees, new borrowing, payment changes, promotional rates, changing APRs, taxes, or creditor-specific minimum-payment rules. It is educational information—not individual debt, legal, or credit advice.
